Rainbows and sunflowers
Elmham GP Practice partners presenting flowers to Charlotte to say thank you for the mural

A Norfolk GP Practice has brought cheer to local residents by commissioning a mural on their car park wall.

The mural of a rainbow and sunflowers can be seen by passers-by from the road and is situated on the wall of Elmham Surgery at North Elmham, near Dereham.

Carol Dunne-Bathurst, Deputy Practice Manager for Elmham and Swanton Morley Surgeries said: “We wanted to say a big thank you to the public for their support and to have something to act as a memorial to remind us of what we have come through. We also wanted to recognise the hard work and commitment of all our staff. We asked a local artist to complete the painting and it has brought a lot of joy to our staff, patients and local residents. It is something that makes you smile at this challenging time.”

The mural was created by local artist Charlotte Chapman who lives in the village and is studying at art college. She said: “I was really touched to be asked to create such a piece in memory of this current time. The aim of the piece was to act as a memorial but also bring joy and happiness to all who see it. It can be a testing time for many people for various different reasons so if I can bring a smile to someone’s face then it has met its aim.”

The mural contains a rainbow which has become symbolic of support for people wanting to show solidarity with NHS workers on the front line and key workers as well as sunflowers which are known for being ‘happy’ flowers and bringing joy.
