Art of Play nominated for ‘Best Animated’
We have just heard that the Art of Play animation – which you can view below, has been selected for a screening at Thurrock International Film Festival http://www.thurrockfilm.co.uk in June and has also been nominated for ‘Best Animated’ – we’ll keep you posted on its progress.
The Art of Play is a creative reminiscence project, bringing together different generations in a community to share their memories of childhood play and create original animations based on those memories.
It launched in Ipswich, where students from Ipswich Academy joined up with members of the Top Time group from Gainsborough Library, to work with reminiscence facilitator, Julie Heathcote, and artist, Emma Curtis.
A programme of reminiscence sessions was followed by a series of animation workshops, and the project culminated in a community event at Gainsborough Library, where family and friends were invited to a screening of the Art of Play animation and were also given copies of an illustrated booklet of stories collected during the project.
The Art of Play is currently taking place in Lowestoft, with students from Pakefield School and residents at Hildesley Court and plans are already in place to continue the project in Bury St Edmunds later this year.
