Health Awareness

Local people involved in the School Lane and Grove Lane Surgery Patient Groups are promoting ‘health awareness’ at an informative open day on Saturday 11 April 2015.

Held at the Carnegie Room in Thetford, the Health Awareness Day will see a range of displays and information provided by health related support groups. In the evening people can watch the Thetford Players enact a series of narrated health scenarios, with practical advice on what to do when faced with such situations.

Keith Eldred, Chair of School Lane Surgery in Thetford, said: “The idea for a Health Awareness Day has been supported by both Patient Groups’ wish to promote all the great healthy activities and support groups that are available locally. There are many such groups in Thetford that people may not be aware of, so getting information out is vital.”  He continued, “We felt that by using the acting skills of the Thetford Players, we could portray some common health scenarios that people might have to face, but in which they may not know how to react. By working with the Surgery’s clinical team, the Players will show what to do and where to go for help.”

Carly Bassett, Practice Manager at School Lane Surgery, said: “It’s a fantastic idea that the Patient Groups have come up with to encourage local people to take control over their own health. Both GP Surgeries are very keen to support innovative ways of engaging with patients, and we would want as many people to attend the Health Awareness Day as possible. Patient Groups are a great way for patients to get involved in what is happening at their surgery, and understand the best use of local health services.”

The Health Awareness Day has a range of stalls open between 1 – 5pm on 11th April at the Carnegie Room. The evening session, presented by the Thetford Players, runs between 7 – 9.15pm.
