A pod will tour the Suffolk Coastal District to encourage people to come and talk about their drinking habits during National Alcohol Awareness Week.

Suffolk Coastal Community Safety Partnership (CSP) will join forces with Suffolk Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) to complete the tour, which starts on 19 November 2012.

The pod will be packed with information on the health issues surrounding alcohol as well as a questionnaire for local residents on their alcohol knowledge/consumption, with a small gift for everyone who completes one.

The team will be out at the following venues between 10am and 2pm – and will also be visiting one venue in Waveney on Friday;

Monday 19 November 2012 – Tesco store at Martlesham Heath

Tuesday 20 November 2012 – Co-op store at Leiston

Wednesday 21 November 2012 – Sainsbury store at Ipswich Warren Heath.

Thursday 22 November 2012 – Morrisons store at Felixstowe

Friday 23 November 2012 – Tesco store at Beccles.

The aim of Alcohol Awareness Week is to provide harm reduction messages for all ages and educate people about what a unit of alcohol is and what certain drinks are worth, as many people have misapprehensions, assuming that one drink equals one unit.

The weeklong initiative is part of the Government ‘ It’s time to talk about drinking’ campaign.

Did you know that over 45s are three times more likely to drink alcohol every day and that 200,000 people come to work with a hangover every day?

Do you think you drink too much? Have family members or friends expressed concerns about your drinking?

Research has shown that more adults are drinking above the recommended amount of alcohol due to ‘unwinding’ after a stressful day with a drink or two and during Alcohol Awareness Week it’s time to listen and talk about the health risks, social problems and stigmas associated with drinking.

Julia Catterwell, Suffolk Coastal’s Community Safety/Sports Officer will be on hand for advice and support for anyone who has any concerns around alcohol.
