TRUST TRIATHLETES RAISING CASH TO HELP YOUNGSTERS

Staff from Norfolk’s mental health trust will be running, cycling and canoeing for good causes during a mini-triathlon which will take them into the heart of Broadland.

Around 15 teams of three from Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are expected to take part in the triathlon on Saturday, October 17 2009.

The race begins with a three-mile run from the Trust’s Norvic Clinic, on St Andrew’s Business Park, to Little Plumstead Hospital. And from there they will cycle to Salhouse Broad, which they will canoe round to complete the course.

The triathlon will raise funds for two good causes – the Just Children Foundation for youngsters in Zimbabwe, and the El Shaddai child street rescue charity in India.

Gary Greenwald, a modern matron at the Norvic Clinic, and one of the event organisers, said: “I’m delighted that our staff – who all work hard in often unglamorous jobs – are taking this opportunity to exercise together, and are determined to raise a lot of money for these very worthwhile charities.”

The event is being supported by the park rangers of Salhouse Broad, who are providing food and hot drinks at the finishing line; and by the Broads Canoe Hire Association, which is providing equipment for the final stage of the triathlon.

Trophies will be presented to the fastest team, the fastest veteran team, and the team that raises the most money for charity.
