HealthEast, the NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, will commission a range of services for local people at the innovative centre, which is being built by NHS Property Services on the former Eversley School Playing Fields in Reydon. The new facility will provide modern fit-for-purpose accommodation for local GPs and other health services.

Andy Evans, chief executive of HealthEast, said: “We are delighted that work has started on the new centre. It will bring huge benefits to the people of Reydon and Southwold by providing them with fully integrated, easy to access services which are delivered from modern, attractive premises.

“Our vision is to deliver out-of-hospital care wherever possible, so that people can access seamless services closer to their homes. The centre is an important step in helping us to realise this ambition and we look forward to its completion.”

The new centre will bring together a wide range of services, in turn helping health and social care professionals work more closely together to deliver better services for patients. It will act as a base from which GPs can teach both undergraduate students and train post-graduate doctors, and will include a community pharmacy as well as space for a range of outpatient and community-based clinical services.

East Coast Community Healthcare, which provides a wide range of NHS community services locally, is planning to use the new health centre.

Director of adult services, Adele Madin said: “This is a very exciting development for the Waveney area. We are intending to provide a range of NHS clinics from the new health centre when it is ready. It will be a bright, purpose designed and modern space for our patients.”

The health centre has been designed to meet the very latest environmental and accessibility standards and will have potential for future expansion. NHS Property Services has appointed local firms LSI Architects as the building designer and Morgan Sindall as the principal contractor.

Work is due for completion in the first half of 2014.
